Scientific and medical studies have shown that patients tend to heal faster when surrounded by art. The Guggenheim Museum, with the contributions of educators and other researchers, has proven that children who engage in art related activities do better in school and have better relationships with their classmates.

In this talk, Architect Büke Uras will share his passion for collecting, discoveries and most importantly his goals through his collection of Ottoman and early Republican period architectural drawings, documents and photography. The purpose of this collection is to create an architectural document and design archive that also functions as a source to improve preservation studies in Turkey. The establishment of an architectural and design museum becomes a necessity. To this end, there will be a discussion through a look at museums, collections and archieves all around the world on how a Turkish architectural and design museum should be and what the scope of its content would be.

Corporations take an overarching view at the basic questions connected to corporate collections: How does the corporation directly gain by creating a corporate art collection? What are the long-term plans for the works of art in a corporate collection? Is there any possibility for corporate collections one day to become public collections, as this was the case for the Uffizi Gallery Museum in Florence and Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia?

This section aims to open up a dialogue about the variety of foundations worldwide. To this end we will address the specific visions regarding foundations in both Turkey and Germany and how their varied interests impact contemporary art. The talk will also focus on how their missions are developed, 41 how they are structured, as well as what kind of impact each foundation has on their communities; and what are the possibilities for these organizations to ensure long-term participation in the future.

How does someone begin an art collection? How do you learn about an artist’s work? Do tastes change in the course of building a collection? Can art advisors be helpful? What are the main differences between an art enthusiast, art 43 collector and art patron? How important are trends? And how do you create and develop an art collection that is personal, unique, and still timeless and universal? In order to discuss these questions thoroughly several major collectors will talk about their own experiences in building their art collections, and the ways in which they transitioned from art enthusiasts to art collectors.
